I teach middle school students in a magnet school in the city. My students are bused in from all over so that they may attend our music magnet school. Some of them must be at their bus stop by 6 am to be able to make it to school on time. My students are highly motivated and enjoy being at our school very much. While our music program is fully funded, we struggle with being able to fund our classroom with needed supplies. Every year, our budget gets smaller and smaller and it gets more difficult to be able to buy these items on my own. My students enjoy reading in and out of class and I try to have my students read at least 25 books by the end of the school year. Every Friday, I conduct "book talks" with my students. When they have a book talk, they discuss their book. They tell me what they liked/didn't like about it, what surprised them about it, connections they may have had with the book as well as giving me a summary of it. I also ask them questions about their novel.
