My first graders are city kids - but how much do they actually know about what goes on "behind the scenes" of an urban environment? As young urban planners thirsty for quality literature, my students would love to put their hands on these books that feature vibrantly described aspects of a bustling city. They will be able to lift the flaps and learn about the life above and under ground in a busy city like ours. All of my students, which include English Language Learners, will benefit from the colorful, print-rich pages. We are an Urban Planning and Urban Design magnet school; it is a challenge to find books that are enjoyable and engaging to six year-olds. These books would provide an ideal springboard for dynamic discussion as we pave the way to creating our own city plan projects.
