My students are 6th-8th graders from the inner city of NYC. Most live in the Bronx and Washington Heights, and almost all kids in my school live in poverty. Despite the challenging environment, our public school is very well run, organized, and offers music/art programs for students as an outlet of their expression. I teach an after school Guitar Club rock band that looks exactly like the movie "School of Rock." The kids absolutely love it, and have become the talk of the school. A number of my music students are special education students, who especially appreciate the chance to rock.
