Here in rural South Carolina our middle school students are seeing their parents out of work, and local businesses closing. They wanted to do something to help our economy. These students and their families work hard and are proud of their historic small town. They started a project designed to bring tourists to our area as a way to help local businesses survive. They have worked hard and are almost ready to bring this project to life. They chose a scavenger hunt that leads visitors from one historic site to the next in order to find 12 small statues. Each statue is a different turtle, native to our state. They have spent a lot of time raising money and refurbishing the sites for the tourists to see. They have received lots of community support and donations, but are still short of the goal. This support would mean a lot to the students and show them that others, outside of our small town, care about them, too.
