My kindergartners would benefit greatly from having a handheld tablet to use in their classroom. They live in an inner city, high poverty neighborhood, but they are eager to learn! Unfortunately, their homes are not equipped with the technological tools that the more affluent neighboring school children have. My students' parents sometimes work two jobs to make ends meet and need to pay for a babysitter to pick up their children from school. Our school is given very little funding to purchase new materials or technology because of all of the budget cuts that have occurred in the past few years. Our school constantly struggles financially because we are the only school in our community that has never become a PI (Program Improvement) school, so we never received additional funding from the district or state. So even though we are the only school in our community that has consistently met all of our API (state testing) testing goals, we are also the poorest school .
