My students are curious, enthusiastic and bright learners. I teach in a Title 1 school and many of the kids are coming from low income families without the resources to provide a lot of extras. Most of their toys and games are in the same condition as what is in our classroom right now! I would love to surprise them with some fresh, new, engaging toys and games this year! I also know that they most frequently have hand-me-down plastic toys. I believe the durability, quality of craftsmanship and natural materials of the items I hope for are beneficial to child development in a variety of ways. The child has yet another opportunity to experience a physical connection to nature, can develop a respect for their materials and will get long term, ongoing use and benefit from these materials. This is a very different experience than many of the noisy, plastic and battery operated toys they are most often exposed to.
