Reading is fundamental and a key motivating factor to get students to want to learn and stay engaged during academic lessons! After that comes having a safe, comfortable, and engaging environment to want to choose a book during their downtime. My students have learning disabilities and reading is one of their main struggles. My students have shown great progress and take pride when they are able to read a line they couldn't read before. They deserve a more welcoming environment for them to be able to go to during the day and sit and read. I want them to always want to feel that they have the ability to pick up a book and read. A comfortable mat and or bean bag will give them more confidence and motivation to continue to learn and strive even higher then they have been in the area of reading. Since they also have sensory difficulties which causes them to have trouble staying in their seat, a bean bag will help them to want to stay and read a book.
