In our little rural school many students do not have basic supplies needed to complete any assignment that requires more than paper and pencil. For many students it is embarrassing for them to have to ask to borrow supplies. I try to have extras on hand, but with high prices it is hard to keep up with all the new move ins. Many kids move so much they never have the needed supplies to complete great projects and exciting assignments that are not from worksheet. As a kid I always enjoyed projects, but would have been embarrassed at not having my own supplies. Ownership does a lot to boost the confidence of many of the kids from lower income families. School should be a place for fun and creative learning not a place to worry that you do not have the supplies to complete your work.
