I am a special education teacher who teaches math and science in an extremely unique middle and high school. My small school is housed in a residential treatment facility for young women. All of my students are wards of the state, placed in this treatment center by the Department of Human Services. Most of my students are eligible for special education, and all of them are receiving mental health services. Although this is the neediest group of students that I have worked with, they are also the most motivated learners I have ever had.
