I believe that students should be able to spread out around the classroom during the learning day. My students are always working in collaborative learning groups, but our classroom is not carpeted. Having a soft sit-upon makes the learning environment more comfortable. These seats can also travel with us as we write in the hallway, outside, or on the playground. The magazines will help give us strong models of expository writing, which is a more challenging genre of writing for this age group. Students will be able to connect to the information, write responses, and research further on topics. And then who doesn't need a little privacy from time to time? Students will be able use the folders as they go into publishing mode and need complete concentration.
