In a cramped and under-supplied classroom, my 100 7th and 8th grade students enter, 25 at a time, and sit down at their often-broken desks at our charter school on the shores of Lake Michigan. Although students come from a wide variety of socioeconomic situations, the vast majority live under the poverty line and have very few supplies and resources for class.
