Making science class fun, engaging and relevant to real life has always been my goal in my classroom! Whether testing the water quality of a local lake or programming a camera aboard the International Space Station to take images of Earth, I strive to utilize real-world science to keep students engaged. Help me make my classroom even more engaging by providing students flexible seating options to make my science classroom even more inviting! As an adult, when I read NASA's release of the "Twins Study" or pull out E.O. Wilson's latest book, I don't sit down at my desk to read. I find a comfortable spot with my highlighters and sticky flags and dive in. While much of science is carried out in a lab environment conducive to traditional desks and tables, there's a lot of research that can be done just as well from a comfortable, non-traditional location that no only more closely emulates how we pour over research in real life, but also providing students a level of control over their education and providing options for movement for those who need it. With these three new seating options, camp chairs, stadium chairs and bean bags, you will allow my students to pick an option that they prefer, providing control over their learning and making it individualized just for them, as well as demonstrating that science research is not stiff and boring. Win-win!
