The students at my middle school are 6th through 8th graders with an enrollment of about 450 students. We are in southern Ohio and considered a rural school district, although it is best described as a bedroom community of Huntington, West Virginia. The students are neither country kids nor city slickers, but rather of the suburbia type. The environment at school leans more toward conservative and both sports and academics are important to the students and community. Students come in as sixth graders and still have a love for reading. Something happens during seventh grade and by eighth grade, it's simply "not cool" for them to read. In high school, it's suddenly cool again. My goal is to fill that gap that occurs in the seventh grade.
