I teach a special education class loaded with fun loving 2nd through 5th grade students with moderate MR. Their disabilities and abilities seem to be all over the map. I love working with this group of students because they make me laugh every day. They work very hard at what they can do and seem to like a challenge and so I try to challenge them in many areas. I have huge hopes for them and I know they will turn out to be great contributors to our society. I collaborate with the third grade teachers and mix their classes with mine and we teach different subjects. My students love the fact that they are not excluded from the general education population. I teach life science and am fortunate to be able to keep a few animals in my classroom. The students love to feed, water, and clean the animals’ cages. They enjoy touching and handling the animals and insects. The coveted job is to be the Guinea Pig Monitor.
