My students are inner city urban youth in DC (Hispanic and African American) who have limited access to books. Even more limiting are books that feature people of color, or from around the world. I want my students to enjoy reading and to see themselves in the books they read. I think this cultural connection will increase their desire to read but also expose them to a world outside of their neighborhood.
