We are a Title I school and are in a low income neighborhood. My 25 third graders, including my mainstreamed students, are either African American or Latino. Most of my students do not have access to a computer at home. For most of them their only exposure and access to technology is at school. We currently go to the computer lab for 1 hour and 15 min. per week to access our school wide reading program and math program online, which builds on their success and challenges their thinking. My students are enthusiastic learners. They would rather give up their play time at recess to work on their ELA and Math skills on the computer in the classroom. Or want to stay after school to do research for their projects. Now I have students asking me if they can type up their writing pieces. Yay! They truly are highly inquisitive and hard workers.
