Unfortunately, most of my students do not have access to a computer at home. My children come from very low socioeconomic families. Many have just enough money to cover their basic needs. Others are unemployed. These are just other obstacles they have to overcome as they proudly and diligently reach their goal of becoming readers. My children are happy hard working children. They are motivated and excited to connect to the internet and work with interactive reading programs using my wireless laptop, connected to a projector in the classroom. Yet, they go to a home with no technology access. For most of them, school is the only place that offers them opportunities to work with a computer or any sort of technology. I can only imagine how much their excitement in reading will grow if they had more access to technology in the classroom with interactive reading books and are able to connect to engaging websites that promote reading.
