Creating a mirror library will allow my students to continue identifying the value they add to the world and reinforce the importance of diversity. Not only will these books give them the opportunity to learn about themselves, but they will begin to see each other in the text as well. Introducing young readers to stories that reflect their culture helps them understand their significance and future impact on the world. Growing a diverse and inclusive library will peak their curiosity, allowing for deeper conversation within our classroom. Celebrating their uniqueness will help them feel affirmed, connected and inspired.
