I am a third-grade teacher at an elementary school in the San Francisco Bay area. The vast majority of our students are from low-income families. In our school, 82% of students receive free lunch and 65% are learning English as a second language. I cannot even begin to express how important it is for these students to practice their reading and writing skills. Many students are working below grade level in language arts and need lots of extra help to master a second language.
