The kindergartners in my class are blessed with energy, potential, and enthusiasm although 100% of them come from socio-disadvantaged homes. My class is predominantly Hispanic and they began the school year barely able to speak English. In the first half of the school year, they have shown much willingness to work hard and overcome learning barriers. Because of their economic home situations, coupled with immigrant families, resources in a school setting are often the only access these students have to learning materials. Their enthusiasm for things other students might take for granted--things like books, and building blocks, and art supplies--is humbling and inspiring. If you are looking to help students who will truly appreciate it, my kindergartners fit the bill.
