I teach an amazing group of seventh grade students with disabilities, who persevere and strive for success in the face of the violence and extreme poverty that surrounds them. In 2005, our charter school took over one of the most violent, under-performing schools in our city and has managed to create an extremely safe, caring environment where students are now free (and eager) to learn and achieve.
