My students are port of entry students from third world countries. The socioeconomic makeup of the students are disadvantaged minorities who can not afford technology in their homes, and school is their only opportunity to explore and experience the world. The school only has two computer carts and two SMART Boards, which are assigned to tier one students, which my students are not. The truth is this type of learning tool is most valuable for those who are below grade level and need visual support to enhance their overall comprehension. My students are eager learners and are always trying to get the most out of their day. Not only are my students second language learners, but my class integrates two grade levels, second and third. The most wonderful thing is that they bring so much to the table especially during discussion, that I would hate to see their potential be thrown out the window. Good kids deserve good things and this is one of these moments.
