My students read independently to grow as readers. We use independent reading books as mentor texts to supplement our whole class instruction. My students are avid independent readers and books fly off my shelves. I am looking to grow my classroom library in order to provide my students with a wider range of books to choose from. My school is a new public school in Chicago and I am teaching 8th grade for the first time in my twenty-one year career. Because the school is new and I am new to teaching middle school, my classroom library is very small. I want to create a large classroom library that will help support and inspire my students.
