Throughout the semester I often hear the question, "When will I ever use this?" With the development of these projects, students will get a practical, hands-on experience with Geometry. When students get to put the concepts learned into action, they have a deeper understanding of the material. One tool that will make these projects a great success are transits. A transit is a tool used by surveyors to measure angles. The type of transits that the students would need would measure both horizontal and vertical angles. The transit would have the students utilize the trigonometric ratios and the laws of sines and cosines. With the donation of four or five transits, students will be able to get out of the classroom and put Geometry to work. Students will be able to work in small groups to find measures of various objects and buildings.
