I teach three sections of 8th grade English Language Arts. Each section has its own unique personality and, oh boy, does my first block have character. Last year these students were tracked by behavior - wild behavior that is. And yet these children LOVE to read and act out scenes from our novels. Our first novel this year, Of Mice and Men, was more than just a crowd-pleaser. This novel entranced these children, motivated them to look up unfamiliar words, think through difficult concepts and film a public service announcement about the novel to show at school assemblies! From the moment I introduced this novel, my kids were goners. They're hooked on reading! Now I scour our city every weekend looking for great books and look forward to getting personalized recommendations.
