My students in my knitting club are very special. They are all high school students and we have some in each grade level (9-12th grade). They started out last year not knowing anything about knitting and ended up the school year knowing how to make chemo hats, preemie hats, scarves and this year we have all sorts of ideas. They want to give back to their community and beyond that by knitting items to donate. We are currently making wool scarves for a troop of marines in Afghanistan. We have four male students in our group and they do not seem to mind all the female companionship around them. We recently had a meeting with the club officers planning on what projects to do this year and where we were going to find the money to do them (our biggest challenge). Their enthusiasm amazes me. Even after a long day at school they stay behind to knit.
