Our students are children that, who for the most part have troubled lives. As of last year, 96.6% of our students came from low income households. They struggle to make meaningful connections with books that are old and outdated and most cannot afford to purchase new books. As most of us know, it is challenging to find literature that appeal to both male and female students. Therefore, I was surprised to learn that my boys and girls found a book that they both want to read. The wonders that this book would take them through would help them to forget for just a little while about their difficult lives. My students are all striving to get their hands on a copy of The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins. Picture a classroom where every student is engaged in a reading and enjoying it at the same time. Just one new book per student, can make a world of a difference.
