Our 4th through 8th graders are avid readers and come to the school library before school, after school and during recesses, in addition to weekly scheduled library classes. For the past five years, students have participated in reading the California Young Reader Medal books. This contest challenges readers to read, evaluate and select a favorite from a group of three nominated titles. Questions, arguments and critical thinking result from class and group discussions. In addition, this activity brings pleasure to reading, since these books are recommended as favorites of children, teachers and librarians across the state of California. My school community appreciates any donation you may make toward purchase of these books for the 2010-2011 school year!
