My students have tough lives. Their childhoods are not filled with happiness, and they already have negative self-images of themselves. I teach an 8:1:1 (8 students with 1 teacher and 1 aide) self-contained classroom for students who are Emotionally Disturbed. They are in grades 1-4. With the low income families they come from, they do not even have a computer at home. They use the couple computers in the classroom when they earn free time. My students have great senses of humor. They love being active and creative. Since life is so difficult for them, I try to make school and learning fun and engaging for them. I want them to have a place they can feel happy and safe. I want them to receive all the advantages possible.
