My students are 6th, 7th and 8th grade special education students with mild to moderate learning disabilities. We're in California. Our library has a very limited selection of books for students to check out. Most of my students are English Language Learners. Many of them have not had much exposure to reading at home. Because my students' parents are not proficient in English, it's harder for them to support their child in reading at home. I feel that if they are provided with books that are fun and imaginative, they are more likely to read for enjoyment outside of school. I have students who read from the 1st-5th grade level.
