Students in my kindergarten class are incredible! Each year they fall in love with characters in books, develop special interests through books, and demonstrate pure joy when they are the recipients of one to take home. Families in our school demonstrate strong support for the many after school events and classroom family literacy celebrations, but, may not be able to supply an individual place for their child to keep his/her own books at home. Our high rate of poverty classifies us as a Title I school; over 60% of the students receive free or reduced lunch. Yet, with these challenges, families continue to look for ways to help their children succeed. A special place to hold cherished books will help to plant the seeds of reading enjoyment for our 'Kinder-Garden' students and help them to bloom into lifelong readers.
