My students are 27 enthusiastic, creative, innovative, gifted/talented 3rd graders attending a Utah public school. Our school has three populations: our gifted "magnet" students, the "neighborhood school" students, and a "Curriculum and Assessment Lab" population which is combined 1/2, 3/4 and 5/6 grades. Although my students hail from a mixed demographic, they all share a deep and committed love of learning, with very supportive parents. They are curious about the world around them - 100% of them participate in the school science fair even though they are prohibited from advancing to the District level which is open only to Grade 4 and above - and they refer to themselves as "Young Scholars". These Young Scholars have created a class mission statement, noting that they are scientists, artists, writers, mathematicians, problem solvers, citizens of the world, and that their goal is to "soar, sail, and succeed".
