My high school students show a true desire to learn. Even though they live in an area that is challenged with all kinds of struggles common to urban communities, they are resilient and keep on going despite of what faces them. Many of them are at-risk students with a myriad of challenges in the home, but they seldom make excuses. Despite the labels and statistics, they show a strong desire to improve their lives and this is why they are my inspiration to bring them the best available. Technology items that are a staple in some schools are hard pressed to get in my school. The school, like the community, is challenged with budget constraints and resources are scarce. The school is overcrowded and is on a multi-track system. As far as skills go, their language arts skills are low and multiple strategies are necessary to be effective.
