My school is considered "high poverty" and fits that very definition. We struggle with attendance at school as well as behavior in the learning environment. I use art as a way to reach my students and integrate all subjects into our artwork as a way to help my students my connections and understand the materials being taught in the classroom. Some of my students that have not had success in the classroom for various reasons, shine in my class. It brings joy to my heart seeing a student know they have succeeded in something. I build wonderful relationships outside of school by attend their extracurricular activities so that when they come to school they will see a familiar and constant face that is there for them. I am one of the biggest cheerleaders for each of my students.
