As the Utah Agriculture Teacher of the year 2011, I am honored to teach inquisitive 6-7 year olds. They have many more questions than I have answers which makes our classroom dynamic and inspiring. My students come from varied economically challenged families, from the haves to the have nots. These munchkins of mine represent the world in their ethnicities. Language and culture study is no problem in our class, it is an every day reality. Most of our ESL population fall under refugee status. Their families are seeking a better, safer life. These little ones are inquisitive, eager to learn, and happy. How exciting it is to see them make connections between the academic world and their own reality. You've heard the expression "the lights came on", well the lights shine bright with these eager learners.
