Distance Learning is tough. Student engagement, motivation, and investment through the study of relevant texts crucial to OSA's curriculum planning. "There There" connects with students who will recognize Oakland monuments, its rich history, and activism. Orange's characters are relatable, funny, melancholy, honest- highly relatable, sparking a sense of inquiry about our own history, identity, and community. Pushing students to consider the impact our creation on the present and how to create the future This project means every student can have a copy of this book at home during remote learning. They will own a copy and be able to write in it, respond to it and not worry about buying a copy or traveling to campus to borrow a copy. While I am not their classroom teacher, they are my students.
