My classroom is full of eager boys and girls that are ready to learn and explore in first grade. They come in full of curiosity, wanting to read like the big kids and do math like the fourth graders. I love the excitement and passion they each bring with them. My first graders learn best with very hands on exploring of concepts, so our classroom has many hands on tools for them to use and explore. This allows the students to manipulate their thinking and ideas concretely, as they begin to develop abstract thinking. They are often brave and willing to take risks when struggling through challenges I set forth for them. This helps to develop their thinking and reasoning skills. Our classroom is designed with multiple spots for partners or groups of students to work and discuss their thinking or share their ideas. In our first grade room, we value creativity, iteration, conversation and team work.
