What do my students need? The first thing I can think of is water! They need good water. I've been providing water in the class, but it has become cumbersome and costly. I would install a water filter but I don't even have a sink in the room. My students have various challenges such as specific learning disabilities, autism, and ADHD, etc. We're trying work on their personal management skills, which includes a healthy relationship with water. Our students chug down sodas and soft-drinks in the morning after their breakfast of chips and candy. I am requesting support to get a water dispenser for our classroom. Although this request is not for a specific academic project, I do anticipate improvements in punctuality, attendance, alertness, and overall health for 35 special ed students. It may be hard to believe, but improving their overall health and academics may be as simple as having a water dispenser in the classroom.
