The effects of COVID-19 have been felt around the world. All teachers and students have been greatly affected due to the pandemic. My role in the school is to provide social and emotional support to all students while reinforcing positive behaviors. I tackle this by providing support to struggling students while reinforcing appropriate behaviors through positive reinforcements. I have found many students thrive on spending time with me as an adult which supports with attention while reinforcing appropriate behaviors. I will use the resources funded by this project to use when I work individually with kids who need extra support and attention, in classrooms during social emotional guidance lessons. Many of the games I will use to engage with students individually and in small groups to help them talk through their feelings while engaged in activities. Also, materials and games purchased will be used as incentives as a reward to come play a game with peers and myself. I strongly believe more than ever students need adults who can be attentive and provide them the attention needed to support them through all the additional stress and anxiety caused by the pandemic. I want to be able to best support students by providing the necessary resources and tools to help them emotionally navigate all that they are going through while providing incentives to reinforce their positive behaviors and choices. My project will provide tools for emotional regulation as well as incentives for positive reinforcement. Ultimately my goal is to support the individual needs of every student while they navigate all the additional worry and stress caused by the changes in their world due to COVID-19.
