My students are a diverse group English Language Learners in grades K-6 who are from 30+ countries from around the world and over 50+ languages represented in the school. Many have not had schooling of any kind before immigrating to the United States. In addition to poor educational skills in reading and math, students also live in low poverty and participate in morning breakfast program and after school programs. Many students have to overcome the language barrier and culture shock just to feel safe and successful. My job is to help students acquire basic reading and math skills and beyond to help them feel more successful in their classrooms. This is done in grade-level pull out programs to help meet needs of students. Together with 2 other ESL teachers we meet the individual needs of 130+ students.
