Even though I serve all 415 kindergarten through eighth grade students as school counselor, this project is directed to the 48 third graders in our school. The third graders are split into three classes and they are an energetic and enthusiastic group of students that have shown a hunger to learn. The students attend a rural school in a small town in Missouri that is about 30 minutes from a larger city. We have a high number of parents that are unemployed, which translates into a high incidence of students that are receiving free/reduced lunches. Local employment opportunities are limited to farming, school, and a local prison. Some parents commute to neighboring communities for employment opportunities. To be able to provide high interest and memorable lessons such as "Recipe for Success" it is necessary to seek funds outside of the school.
