We aim use this laminating film to assist children with CCNs (Complex Communication Needs) through the use of individualized laminated PODD books. With laminated PODD books, we can help students communicate through visual pictures. We can help give them a voice. Just as a person who uses speech can choose from thousands of words in their head when they talk, PODDs aim to give people with CCN access to a greater vocabulary of words. We have found this can greatly reduce typical frustration caused by not knowing how to say what they are thinking. If we restrict a person’s vocabulary to a smaller number of words, how will we know for sure that the person is not capable of more?
