Our students are the children of lower enlisted soldiers on a military post in the state of Washington. They are poor, but they have passion and creative drive to make awesome music and art. Last year, over 60 students created their own original music. It was an experience that they fondly remembered, even though we used video to record the music live. They attend a public school. All 4th and 5th Grade students take music. They learn how to play the recorder in 4th Grade. About 1/2 way through the year, 4th Graders transition to Beginning Band. Our 5th Graders take Beginning Band all year. Throughout the course of the year, they create their own bands, in which they design their own album covers, create original music, and perform their original music to their peers. We post their live concerts online. They enjoy watching and listening to music.
