When a student is learning to read, giving them the opportunity to read on their individual learning / reading level builds confidence, self-esteem and helps them feel successful. During this school year, I will be teaching about sixteen to eighteen first grade students with different needs, who require different assistance and accommodations. Many of my students come from families who are living below the poverty level. My school has about 95% of the students receiving free or reduced lunch. Many of these students have limited backgrounds, and have been exposed to very little hands on activities at home. With little help and encouragement on a daily basis, many of my students turn to me for love, attention and an education which will help them to learn, grow, and thrive in their current grade level which will prepare them for the rest of their educational career.
