My students come from urban, low income situations. However that does not mean that they are not motivated. The broadcast journalism students are wonderful, highly motivated students who all have lofty goals for themselves. To get into the class, they had to have excellent grades, two teachers had to nominate them, and they could not be a behavior problem in the school. These children often come at 6:30 am and will stay till 6:00 pm not because I require it, but because they have deadlines they need to meet or they want to try to push themselves just a little bit further. These are the best of the best at my school and I am lucky to teach them.
