Research indicates that the amount of time kids spend reading is one of the most powerful things they can do to positively impact their reading. And yet, we know most struggling readers spend nearly 5 times less time reading than their peers. Why? A lot of this has to do with the desire to read. In addition, most of them have difficulty finding texts at their reading level that interest them. And, they are embarrassed to select books they CAN actually read because they look "babyish" and the topics are not for more mature readers. In comes High Noon books! These texts are high interest for older readers with lower readability levels so they can feel successful as a reader. The texts used to differentiate instruction for struggling readers is as important as the skills taught. Students have to spend time reading; applying those skills to make the most gains possible! Your contribution will impact lives!
