Our new standards cover Food Chain and Food Web lessons. This pellet activity will reinforce and excite the students as a culminating activity after these lessons. Students love to participate in science labs and discover new things. Because of our demographic, many of our students have never seen an owl, let alone dissect an owl pellet. This will be a unique experience for them. It will reinforce the predator/prey concept in addition to helping them understand food webs and food chains. I can't wait to see their expressions when I tell them we are dissecting owl pellets!
