My students represent a growing trend in suburbia. We have over 80% eligible for free or reduced lunch, and many are living in poverty, right in the midst of a prosperous Northern California county. My students need role models, and not just the snippets of speeches by MLK Jr., they need a balance of the words of the time, the peaceful as well as the pissed off.
