I work with elementary special education students. They work on not only academic skills, but also require social skills, behavior, and adaptive skills. They work hard and try their best. Many do not come to school with supplies or have supplies at home. I try to provide as much as I can, while also making sure to have what they need when they are in my classroom. Our school has many students who do not speak English as their first language so vocabulary becomes a key part of their learning. We also have a high level of poverty in our building, therefore students require much more than basic reading, writing, and math education. The students come to school eager to learn, at times with minimal skills and supplies to get them started.
