My classroom is filled with eager sophomores and juniors who are interested in fine-tuning their writing in an effort to give themselves options after high school. They generally have good basic skills, but they don't often understand the kinds of linguistic moves that will make their writing come alive on the page. Additionally, the students sometimes cannot see their mistakes, the kinds of errors that keep them from effectively communicating with an audience.
